Taupo Fishing Report

28-09-2016

FLY AND GUN

Fishing continues to improve on the lake this last week, those that have braved the inclement weather and found a calm patch between the windy squalls have been having some great fishing out there. The quality of fish seems to be getting better as well.

Trolling at the 100 to 120 feet mark has been the best depth, Traffic Light, Spotty Gold, Rasta, and the smaller Tobies have been the top lures for the trollers.

Harling continues to get better especially for the early risers that are on the water fishing before and just on day break, 5-7 meters deep is all they are fishing and then going a bit deeper as the sun comes up.

Green Orbit, Red Bodied Green Orbit, Red Rabbit, and the Olive Woolly Bugger have all been top flies for the Harlers this week.

Quite a few good reports from those that have been early season jigging some really good numbers this week to a few lucky anglers who just found the right depth and place using the darker Pat Swift flies.

Local Fly fishing is also still going well on the local rivers you would have to say that some of the biggest runs are happening right now.

There seems to be more people than ever flogging the Hine this last couple of weeks which will now have lots of very dark disinterested fish fleeing from pool to pool, This has been great news for those in the know and leaving lots of space for other anglers to catch some really nice silver fresh run fish from the Tongariro and the T.T this last couple of weeks.

The new Trout season starts this weekend and it looks like a wet one , the forecast at the time of writing is looking quite gloomy and may put quite a few rivers out of sorts so many anglers will be leaving plans to the last minute as to where to fish depending on the weather.
